It doesn’t matter how talented a singer you are, it is always helpful to have a famous fan squarely in your corner.  That is where Maggie Rogers found herself when Pharrell Williams became a big fan of the Maryland native after hearing her single “Alaska.”  Rogers, who combines folk, dance, and R&B, has been turning new listeners into fans ever since.  Originally brought up on folk music, Maggie grew to love other styles of music while studying abroad in France.  The result of all these influences will be brought together on her upcoming major label debut that is due out in early 2019.

The first single to be released is the pop heavy “Light On.”  The song utilizes Roger’s strong voice and a catchy melodies.  It was written as a thank you letter to her fans and a way of letting them know what has been going on with her life.  Transforming from the private life to the public sphere can be difficult.  This song was Maggie’ way of coming to terms with what in means to be an entertainer and all the things that come with it.  In press release put out in support of “Light On” Rogers states, “I love music more than anything else in the whole world and I always have.  This song is me actively choosing this life…in my way and in my time.”

“Oh, I couldn’t stop it
Tried to figure it out
But everything kept moving
And the noise got too loud
With everyone around me saying
“You should be so happy now”
