Norway has been producing more than its market share of great pop music lately. Established artists like Ina Wroldsen, Aurora, and Sigrid have already made a name for themselves throughout the world. My latest Norwegian discovery is singer songwriter named Amanda Tenfjord. The 21 year old has just released her single “First Impressions” on Propeller Recordings.
I will do my best to avoid a first impression pun here. Her song is super catchy, and will have you singing along in no time. In it, Amanda describes a person who is great at making first impressions and working a room. However, they are actually putting on a front and have nothing substantial to offer anyone. This song sounds like an upbeat version of Anna Kendrick’s song, “Cups,” from Pitch Perfect. “First Impressions” features a flood of different types of percussion and a bouncing synth beat. Producer Askjell Solstrand allows the song to breathe and keep Amanda’s voice from being drowned out by background noise. While this may be her official debut, there are other songs on YouTube that really showcase her voice.
“You’re catching everybody’s eyes
But you’re a walking bunch of lies
I can see behind your smile
Hello devil in disguise”
This is a great first showing for Tenfjord who will release her debut EP in the Fall. You will want to jump on the bandwagon beforehand through. Check out her first single down below and let me know what you think in the comments!
